Why Blog?

Our tennis program is about inclusiveness. We welcome persons with developmental, intellectual, and physical handicaps. We have the website, so why have a Blog section? The answer is quite simple actually. Speaking with Special Olympics Canada, we are the only known program of this type in Canada (that we/they know of - keep this in mind) This uniqueness may seem honorable, beneficial or noteworthy. Indeed it is in some respect. However, this one of a kind status prevents us from falling under the Special Olympics umbrella. To be an official sport within Special Olympics there must exist programs spread across the province and country. And, being an official sport is a huge deal as it provides athletes the opportunity to compete at the local, provincial, national and international level (tennis is an official Special Olympics sport in over 50 countries worldwide). So, again, why Blog? Well by blogging, first, perhaps there are other programs that we and Special Olympics Canada is not aware of. If this is the case then they have a forum to comment, share, make known their program. Second, hopefully individuals will read this and feel an urge to start up a program in their community. In both cases, a network of special athlete tennis communities will have started with an end goal of Special Olympics Canada recognizing Tennis as an official sport.

So, feel obliged to add your comments, share your experiences, ask for assistance in setting up a program in your community, or provide us with information on a program you run.

Why Blog? - to reach out to the greater community of Special Athletes Tennis.
